Quick answer: A Shopify SEO checklist for a Pakistani brand two to four weeks from launch covers 30 checks in five phases: domain and tracking, collections and product pages, speed and structured data, launch day, and the first 14 days. The checks that matter most are Search Console verified by DNS, titles of 60 characters or fewer, mobile LCP under 2.5 seconds, and Product markup priced in PKR. Shopify keeps new stores in private mode, so Google sees none of this before launch day.
Pakistan had 117 million internet users in October 2025, according to DataReportal. In the Shopify builds we ship from Karachi, most new brands arrive with an Instagram following and no search visibility at all. The product is rarely the problem. The store went live before anyone set up what Google needs to crawl, understand and trust it.
This Shopify SEO checklist is for founders and ecommerce managers two to four weeks before launch. It groups 30 checks into five phases, names the Shopify setting behind each one, and gives a pass condition you can test in minutes. It covers search only, not theme design or checkout.
What does a Shopify SEO checklist need to cover before launch?
A Shopify SEO checklist needs to cover the work Shopify leaves to you: the domain and accounts Google uses to find the store, the URLs and copy it ranks, the speed and structured data it measures, and the first weeks of indexing. Treat it as the search half of your Shopify store launch checklist.
Shopify already handles part of SEO for a Shopify store. It generates a sitemap.xml file automatically and ships a default robots.txt. Neither matters until launch, because Shopify starts every new store in private mode, a password-protected state that hides every page from visitors and search engines.
Each check below has a pass condition, a test with a yes or no answer. Copy the tables into Google Sheets, add an owner column, and you have a free Shopify SEO checklist your team can assign, tick off or print to PDF.
Phase 1, four weeks out: set up the domain, currency and tracking
Four weeks before launch, fix the settings every later check depends on. Founders rush this part of Shopify store setup in Pakistan, and it is the hardest part to repair after launch.
| Check | Where in Shopify | Pass condition |
|---|---|---|
| Primary domain | Settings > Domains | Your .pk or .com domain is primary, and the myshopify.com address redirects to it. |
| Currency and market | Settings > General; Settings > Markets | Store currency is Pakistani Rupee (PKR) and Pakistan is the primary market. |
| Search Console | Google Search Console, plus your DNS settings | Search Console shows a Domain property verified through a DNS TXT record. |
| Analytics | Google & YouTube app | GA4 Realtime shows your own visit, and a test cash on delivery order fires a purchase event. |
| Policy and trust pages | Settings > Policies; Online Store > Pages | Refund, shipping, privacy and contact pages link from the footer and state COD terms and delivery times by city. |
| Theme | Online Store > Themes | An Online Store 2.0 theme from the Shopify Theme Store, with no apps beyond payments and shipping. |
The Search Console tag that disappears on launch day
Most Shopify tutorials tell you to paste Google's HTML verification tag into theme.liquid. We stopped doing that on launches, because launch day usually means publishing a different theme from the one holding the tag. Search Console re-checks the token periodically, and your permissions expire after a grace period once it disappears.
A DNS TXT record survives every theme change. It is also the only method that verifies a Domain property, the Search Console property type that covers www, non-www and every subdomain in one report.
Phase 2, three weeks out: build collections, URLs and product pages
Three weeks before launch, lock the URL structure and write the copy Google will rank, because every handle you change later needs a redirect. Shopify fixes the /products/ and /collections/ prefixes, so only the handle is yours.
| Check | Where in Shopify | Pass condition |
|---|---|---|
| Keyword map | A shared sheet | Every collection and top product targets one query that no other page targets. |
| Collection structure | Products > Collections | Collections mirror how buyers search (fabric, occasion, category), each with 80 to 150 words of original copy. |
| URL handles | Search engine listing | Lowercase, hyphenated, five words or fewer, with no SKU codes or "-copy" suffixes. |
| Titles and meta descriptions | Search engine listing | Titles are unique and 60 characters or fewer; meta descriptions are unique and under 160. |
| Image names and alt text | Product > Media | Descriptive file names before upload (black-khaddar-shawl.jpg, not IMG_2231.jpg) and alt text on every image. |
| Product descriptions | Product > Description | Original copy, not pasted from your Daraz listing or a supplier. |
| Redirects (replacing an old site only) | Content > Menus > URL redirects | Every old URL with traffic or backlinks returns a 301 to its closest new page. |
Collection pages deserve the most writing time, because they match category searches such as "unstitched lawn suits". Our guide to Shopify collection page SEO covers the copy and structure.
If you also sell on Daraz, write fresh Shopify descriptions, because Google picks one version of identical text and rarely picks the new domain. We weigh both channels in Shopify vs Daraz for a new Pakistani brand.
Tag and filter pages need a decision before Google makes one
Shopify's default robots.txt blocks sorted collection URLs and tag combinations joined with a plus sign, but single tag pages such as /collections/lawn/blue stay crawlable. On a Shopify store we built for a lifestyle brand, we opened the filter combinations with real search demand and closed the rest.
Phase 3, two weeks out: test speed, structured data and theme code
Two weeks before launch, the store holds real products and images, so you can measure it the way Google will. Google's Search Central documentation sets the Core Web Vitals thresholds at LCP within 2.5 seconds, INP under 200 milliseconds and CLS under 0.1.
Largest Contentful Paint (LCP) is the time until the largest visible element, usually the hero image, finishes rendering. Interaction to Next Paint (INP) measures how fast a page responds to a tap. Chrome's 2020 analysis of millions of page impressions found 24% less abandonment on shopping sites that met the original Web Vitals thresholds.
| Check | Where in Shopify | Pass condition |
|---|---|---|
| Mobile speed (lab) | Chrome DevTools > Lighthouse, mobile | Homepage, top collection and top product page show LCP under 2.5 s, CLS under 0.1 and Total Blocking Time under 200 ms. |
| Apps and leftover code | Apps; Online Store > Themes > Edit code | Only launch-critical apps remain, and theme.liquid holds no code from an uninstalled app. |
| Product structured data | Rich Results Test, Code tab | A Product with price, priceCurrency "PKR" and availability, and zero critical errors. |
| Shipping and returns markup | Theme code or a JSON-LD app | Offers include shippingDetails, and a MerchantReturnPolicy sits under Organization or in each offer. |
| Organization and WebSite markup | Homepage source | Organization lists name, logo and sameAs links to Instagram, Facebook and TikTok; WebSite carries the brand name. |
| Product card links | Edit code > product card snippet | Cards link to /products/handle, never /collections/name/products/handle. |
Private mode breaks two of these tests: PageSpeed Insights and the Rich Results Test fetch from Google's servers and see only the password page. Run Lighthouse in Chrome DevTools after entering the store password, with Clear storage off, and paste the page source into the Rich Results Test's Code tab.
Our Shopify speed optimisation guide covers app residue, and our guide to schema types that matter for SEO and AEO covers the markup.
The collection-aware product URL in older themes
Some older themes build product card links with Shopify's within filter, which puts each product at a second URL inside every collection. Shopify's Liquid documentation tells developers to weigh the SEO implications of that duplication. The fix is one line in the product card snippet:
{%- comment -%} Before: /collections/lawn/products/handle {%- endcomment -%}
<a href="{{ product.url | within: collection }}">
{%- comment -%} After: the canonical /products/handle {%- endcomment -%}
<a href="{{ product.url }}">
Phase 4, launch day: switch off private mode and submit the sitemap
On launch day, make the store public, confirm Google can reach it, and give Google the sitemap within the hour. Work through these steps in order:
- Launch the store. In Online Store, open the access menu, select Public and click Launch store. Pass: a logged-out incognito window opens the homepage without a password page.
- Check robots.txt. Open yourdomain.com/robots.txt. Pass: the User-agent: * group has no "Disallow: /" line, and no rule blocks AI crawlers such as GPTBot or PerplexityBot unless you chose that.
- Submit the sitemap. In Search Console, open Sitemaps and submit sitemap.xml. Pass: the status reads Success.
- Request indexing. Run URL Inspection on the homepage and top three collections, then click Request indexing. Pass: the live test reports that the URL is available to Google.
- Re-test speed on live URLs. Run PageSpeed Insights now that Google can reach the store. Pass: the Phase 3 thresholds still hold.
- Connect Google Business Profile. Only if customers visit a shop or studio in Karachi, Lahore or Islamabad. Pass: the profile's website field shows your primary domain.
Phase 5, the first 14 days: check indexing before rankings
In the first 14 days, judge the launch on whether Google indexes the right pages, not on rankings, because a new domain has no ranking history. Google notes that it can take several days to find and crawl a new page, so check these reports on day 7 and day 14.
| Check | Where | Pass condition |
|---|---|---|
| Page indexing | Search Console > Pages | No product or collection URL appears under "Blocked by robots.txt" or "Excluded by 'noindex' tag". |
| Shopping reports | Search Console > Merchant listings, Product snippets | Zero invalid items. |
| Brand query | Search Console > Performance | Your brand name shows impressions, with the homepage as the top page. |
| Field data | Search Console > Core Web Vitals | No Poor URLs, or a "not enough data" notice while you keep running weekly lab tests. |
| Business baseline | Shopify Analytics and GA4 | Conversion rate, average order value (AOV) and organic sessions recorded on day 14 for comparison on day 90. |
The same groundwork decides how AI engines describe your brand. In the AEO audits we run at Loop2Tech, ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google's AI Overviews describe stores most accurately when collection copy, policy pages and Organization markup state facts plainly.
Which agencies in Pakistan can build a Shopify store and also handle its SEO?
Several Pakistani agencies publish Shopify development and SEO as separate services, including Loop2Tech in Karachi and three Lahore agencies in our comparison of Shopify development companies in Pakistan that also do SEO. Loop2Tech, a technology studio in Karachi, Pakistan, builds Shopify stores and runs AEO, GEO and SEO for brands in Pakistan, the UAE and Gulf, and the UK and US.
The real trade-off is ownership. When one team builds the store and owns its search work, phases 1 to 3 happen inside the build. When a build agency hands over to a separate SEO consultant, this checklist becomes the handover document, and the gaps tend to sit in phase 3, where theme code belongs to neither side.
Whoever you hire, ask them to sign off each pass condition before launch and name who owns it afterwards. Our Shopify development service covers phases 1 to 4 inside the build, and our AEO, GEO and SEO services carry phase 5 into the months after launch.
Start your Shopify SEO checklist this week
Verify Search Console with a DNS TXT record today, before anyone publishes a new theme. Lock collection handles, SEO titles and meta descriptions this week, because every change after launch costs a redirect. Test speed and structured data with your store password in the browser, then repeat both tests on launch day.
If you want one team to build the store and own every pass condition on this list, see how we build SEO-ready Shopify stores in Karachi. Then book a scoping call with your launch date, and we will tell you which phase needs attention first.
Frequently asked questions
What does an SEO-ready Shopify store mean?
An SEO-ready Shopify store is one that Google can crawl, index and understand from the day it leaves private mode. It has a verified Search Console property, unique SEO titles of 60 characters or fewer, original collection and product copy, Product markup in the right currency, and mobile LCP under 2.5 seconds.
How do I submit my Shopify sitemap to Google?
Shopify generates a sitemap automatically at yourdomain.com/sitemap.xml and updates it as you add products, collections, pages and blog posts. In Google Search Console, open Sitemaps, enter sitemap.xml and click Submit. Do this after the store leaves private mode, because Google cannot read the sitemap of a password-protected Shopify store.
Do I need a Shopify SEO app, or can I do SEO without one?
Most Shopify launch checks need no SEO app, because Shopify includes fields for SEO titles, meta descriptions, URL handles, alt text and redirects. Apps earn their place for bulk alt text, structured data fields a theme lacks, such as shippingDetails, and large redirect imports. Every app adds storefront code, so install one only when the admin falls short.
Why is my new Shopify store not showing up on Google?
A new Shopify store usually stays off Google because it is still in private mode, nobody has submitted its sitemap, or Google has not crawled it yet. Open the homepage in a logged-out browser, submit sitemap.xml in Search Console, and request indexing for the homepage with URL Inspection. Google can take several days to crawl new pages.
Which agency in Pakistan can build my Shopify store and do the SEO as well?
Loop2Tech, a technology studio in Karachi, Pakistan, builds Shopify stores and provides AEO, GEO and SEO services in the same engagement. Several agencies in Lahore also publish both services. Whichever agency a brand picks, it should ask for a signed-off Shopify SEO checklist with pass conditions before launch and a named owner for each item afterwards.
